The objective of children's orthodontic in our clinics is " do not remove teeth (extraction) as possible" and " to shorten the treatment span". We try to decrease the loading for kids, so we analyze the growth situation of their facial skeleton and tooth alignment, and diagnose the best timing to start treatment. This make the children get not only the best alignment of teeth, but also the best skeletal growth pattern.

Orthodontic treatment should be applied in the most suitable timing

For children's orthodontic, many clinics suggest to apply in a early timing, but we do not do it. We get the picture of growth pattern first, and then apply in a most suitable timing. That is because orthodontic will modify children's facial skeleton. Too early application only elongate the treatment span unnecessarily, and may make tooth itself and periodontal tissue het worse. Therefore, if we found it is not a good timing to start treatment, we will observe for a period and have follow-up every half to 1 year.

The reason of having observation for growth: finding the best timing in a two-stage diagnosis

We have observation for growth because we need to compare 2 growth levels in 2 time points to estimate growing velocity of bone and teeth. The general method doing it in only 1 time point, so the growth speed cannot be calculated correctly. Therefore, we take materials of patients in the first visit and after observation (in half to 1 year). After we get the precise velocity of growth, we ca know the best timing when we can start treatment and thus avoid wasting time and money.

Treatment starting time and examples (When to start the orthodontics?)

Prevention orthodontics (2.5-5 years old)・Early crossbite treatment

• ・Removing bad habit (finger biting, nail biting, tongue thrust, lip biting, and mouth breathing...)
• ・Removing functional factors (abnormal eruption, early contact of teeth causing occlusal interference...)

1st stage treatment (from elementary school)

Treatment stage with growth. Augmentation or suppression of upper and lower jaw bone. Since the growth spurt of upper and lower jaw are different, it is important for us to recognize the correct growth speed and find the best timing to apply treatment. We can modify alveolar bone on this stage, adjust the antero-posterior relationship of jaw bones, and expand width of jaw bone that harmonize tooth size and jaw width. Since we only have one chance of life to do it, we have to treat within the growth spurt. If we can guide jaw bone growth in a good way here, the next 2nd stage treatment must become easier because of the following advantages:

• No need to extract
• Or decrease the numbers of tooth extraction
• Shorten the treatment span...

Thus treatment become smooth, and the patient suffers less.

2nd stage treatment (adult orthodontic)

Through1st stage, we enter the 2nd stage of treatment after all deciduous teeth exchanged to permanent teeth.

The Procedure of treatment

1. 1

   ConsultationFree of charge

   At first visit, we will ask you about where you want to change and your complaint. Then we will tell you the estimated total fee and approximate treatment plan. If you have any problem about tooth alignment, please consult us freely. This consultation is free of charge.

2. 2

   3D simulation

   We use the latest 3D intraoral scanner iTERO element to simulate treatment. Within this new device, we can demonstrate change of treatment before and after without taking impression.

3. 3

   Precise examination and diagnosis

   We use digital cephalometric analysis and intral oral examination to get the picture of your skeletal pattern and teeth alignment. Then we will combine the objective analyze results and your demand to make a diagnosis and choose the most suitable orthodontic appliance.

4. 4

   Active orthodontic treatment start

   Apply the orthodontic appliances.
   （It takes 15-30 mins.）

5. 5

   Active treatment (come to our clinic periodically)

   Generally, it takes half a year- 3 years for children's orthodontics, and takes 1-3 years for adult orthodontics. In this active treatment, coming to our clinic periodically is necessary (1 time/month). We will observe the tooth motion and adjust the appliance every times.

6. 6

   Active treatment finish (removing orthodontic appliances)

   Removing orthodontic appliances. Since teeth are not stable just after removing, we need a removable retainer to keep the teeth in the finished position.

7. 7

   Retention and observation

   Using retainers to keep the tooth alignment, and observing if occlusion got change. We will adjust retainer every times, and cleaning all teeth. After 6 months of retention, the frequency can be decreased to once 3-6 months.
